Two inmates at the Dasna District Jail in Ghaziabad have died at the district's joint government hospital, as confirmed by officials on Tuesday.
Both individuals were receiving treatment in the jail hospital due to respiratory issues.
According to jail authorities, their health deteriorated, prompting a referral to the district hospital, where they passed away within two hours on Monday afternoon. The deceased have been identified as Wajid (27) and Dharmendra (60), residents of Shankar Vihar Colony in the Khoda police jurisdiction.
Wajid had been incarcerated since November 20, 2024, for a criminal case, while Dharmendra, who suffered from asthma, was sent to jail on July 20 of this year by the Loni Border police.
Seetarama Sharma, the superintendent of Dasna Jail, informed a news agency that both inmates experienced fluctuating health conditions. When they faced severe breathing difficulties yesterday, they were transferred to the district hospital, where they ultimately died.
He added that a panel of doctors conducted their autopsy on Tuesday, which was also recorded as per regulations. Sharma mentioned that they are currently awaiting the autopsy report to determine the exact causes of death.
